We've justed added some custom metrics for testing and found nowhere to remove them from CloudWatch.

Please kindly help, thanks!

CloudWatch metrics are stored for two weeks. Old data will be removed automatically.

It is currently not possible to delete CloudWatch metrics. But you will only be charged for the hours where you are actually putting data into your custom metric.

Can someone explain the double InstanceName in the attached screen shot? The first time I specified the custom metric I hadn't included the InstanceName and the field was showing as blank even though a name had been defined for the Instance through the AWS console.

In assuming that the lack of an InstanceName was my fault I specified the it second time and also corrected the instanceID, but now it shows up twice.

I know there multiple mentions that metrics can not be deleted but any update that I might have missed on this issue?

Hi there oneskyapp,
To confirm the answers that are already in this thread, the custom metrics are removed after two weeks.

Hi Rakesh_
Unfortunately there is no method to delete the metrics at this time. As also confirmed you will only be charged for metrics that are used. For more pricing details see the below link:

Hi again oneskyapp,
Unfortunately you have not missed anything, there is still no way to manually delete custom metrics. In regards to your question about the custom metrics screenshot, if you are still having issues PM me with the details and timelines and I will see if I can clarify what is going on.

Quim.

Cannot remove manually. After 2 weeks with no data they are removed.

I still don't see a functionality to delete the custom metrics. Is that expected? Also, can we at least change the retention to 1 day as opposed to the default of 2 weeks?

I'm still being billed for Firehose metrics that are no longer in use and the streams have been deleted already. It seems like the metrics must still be in use but not sure how or by what. Is there any ETA on an API to be able to delete custom metrics? Please confirm it is at least on the feature request list?
